Well-written and incredibly heartfelt, Army of Dude is the blog of Alex Horton who, until recently, has been deployed as a soldier in Iraq. More than a simple chronicle of his days on the front lines, Horton’s blog eloquently and at times heartbreakingly reveals the true cost of the Iraq war through the eyes of those who sacrifice the most – the soldiers and their loved ones. Horton’s less-than-sunny perspective on the Army is an eye-opener as well. Army of Dude is a must read.

Besides being a middle-aged guy who loves cycling, Elden (aka Fatty, or the Fat Cyclist) is also the father of four kids (2 boys, identical twin girls), and the husband of a woman — Susan — who is fighting metastatic breast cancer. He’s been keeping a blog for almost three years, called “Fat Cyclist“, which he started as a place he could tell jokes and embarrass himself into keeping his weight down. While still comprised of plenty of laughs, Elden is now inclined to also write the occasional serious post, keeping readers, family and friends to date with how his family’s battle is going. Check out Elden’s blog at www.fatcyclist.com and congratulate him on winning today’s Blog Award!

Love dogs? Particularly of the Golden Retriever variety? Then The Adventures of Spencer: A Mascot Dog’s Blog is for you! Originally trained to appear in movies, Spencer was too interested in getting attention from everyone on set, so he had an early retirement. He was adopted last year and is now the studio dog/mascot for a Los Angeles-based video production company called Stickerdog, which, he explains, mainly entails showing off his tennis balls and getting petted – not to mention appearing in his very own blog.
