And you think packing your toddler into the minivan for a trip to Costco is a challenge? Meet Laila El-Haddad, a 30-year old Palestinian journalist who divides her time between Gaza and the United States, where her son Yousuf’s father, a Palestinan refugee denied his right to return to Palestine (and thus their right as a family to live together), resides. Laila’s incredible blog details the trials of raising her son between Gaza and the U.S., while working as a journalist, and all that it entails – from potty training to border crossings. Together, she, her husband and her child endure a lot, and the personal becomes the political. Check out their blog at http://a-mother-from-gaza.blogspot.com/ and congratulate Laila on winning today’s Blog Award!

Capital Confidential, written by political reporters at the Albany Times Union covers New York State politics in an even-handed and comprehensive way. NYS Gov. Elliot “Steamroller” Spitzer provides plenty of fodder as does the Republican State Senate, which is currently engaged in a battle to preseve its majority. Given the lively cast of characters, blogging on New York state politics is likely easier than blogging about say, political life in North Dakota, but these guys do a great job. Kudos to Jay Jochnowitz, James Odato, Rick Karlin, and newcomer Irene Jay Liu for all their hard work!
